Under 13 girls get a game at last Print E-mail

After two weeks without any football, the Under 13 girls finally got a game on Saturday morning, although the period of inactivity in the previous fortnight showed. The final score of 9-0 was a convincing one, but one or two girls looked to be lacking match fitness and by the end were a little leggy. Hopefully next week's game will go ahead against St Josephs, and give us another match in which to prepare for the cup semi final against Yorkshire Amateurs the week after.

The first half saw Wigton dominate, and take a 6-0 lead with a hat trick from Amy (after she had missed a couple of sitters!!), 2 goals from Chloe and one from Kate. However, despite being challenged at half time to go out and clear off the -16 goal difference the team had prior to this game, the girls could only muster a further three goals- Emma, Nicole and Emily- as they let Rothwell control the ball to easilly and didn't seem to want to fight as much for possession. This was still a good result though, helping us move up the table, and maintaining our 'unbeaten in purple' run!!! Girl of the game was Megan Hofmann who was a revelation in a new position at right back, and has given us extra options for defence in the future. Special thank-yous also to Megan Scanlon, Emily, Amy and Nicole for taking a turn in goal each.

Next week sees St Joseph's at Wigton for the second time this season. Both games so far have been very tight between the teams, and having only lost narrowly to Tingley this weekend, they will be looking to continue their form against us. This has the potential to be another 'Burley disaster' so every girl needs to be putting her all into the game. Top of the league may well be out of reach, but if other results go well and we play as well as we know we can in every game between now and the middle of May, second place is a real possibility which for the first season at 9-a-side would be an excellent achievement. Kick off details yet to be finalised, but should be next Saturday 13th March at 10AM, (meet at 9.30)  at Wigton. Purple kit, as I know the blue one is far too small now!!! In fact we will play in purple from now until the end of the season!!!

Our cup semi-final against Yorkshire Amateurs will be on SATURDAY MARCH 20th, with an 11am kick off(meet at 10.20) at  Tinshill top where we played them earlier this season. That's the pitch up Otley Old Road beneath the radio tower and Cookridge Fire Station. Please try and be available for this one. I know that some girls will be unavailable, but considering Yorkshire Amateurs record over the last 2 yeas (i.e. Haven't lost a single game, not even drawn, just won every one of them!!!) we need to be at full strength with options on the bench!! And wouldn't it be good to be in a cup final!!! Could girls please let me know now if you definitely CANNOT make the cup semi-final please.
